I'm concerned that Raewyn's egg won't hatch. She leaves it too often. There's not much to be done about it, of course, since I can't interfere with the nature I'm observing, but that doesn't stop me from worrying.

The other nestings are doing well. Experience vs. inexperience.

My leg is doing better. The burn is almost pink instead of red. Theo should be coming to see me soon. I've followed his orders, so hopefully he'll be pleased and not upset that I wouldn't promise about going into the caves by myself.

I think I'm looking forward to seeing him.

Caerwyn has an egg tucked away in her nest! She's hardly moved the last several days, ever the vigilant mother. Raewyn finally succumbed to Beynon's wooing and they've been inseparable for a week now. I almost mean that literally. I haven't caught them at it, but I suspect Steffan's been at Twillip as well. Time will tell if the matings were successful. I'm hopeful.

Daphne was the one in Raewyn's cave that night. She apologized for leaving me injured. I'm not overly concerned about that part of it, Merlin knows I injure myself often enough. She seems sincerely sorry, but rather closed-mouthed about the whole thing that led to Ginny Weasley's poisoning. It seems like there's more to the story than she's told. Whatever it is, I hope it's done with now.

I asked Joscelin about the shiny thing. Feel rather silly now, and am more aware that usual of how -- odd I am compared to most people. I hardly ever think of sex and attraction outside the world of dragons. It's a little disturbing. People my age are supposed to think about sex a lot, or so I understand. Hmmm.

Caerwyn and Eirian have begun the mating season. Eirian finally gave in late last week and Caerwyn's been taking every opportunity to ensure she nests. He's been at her so often I've hardly had time to check on the others. Randy bastard.

Beynon had been making progress with Raewyn after he ran off Steffan, but in the last few days she's not tolerated him well at all. He's come close to being singed on more than one occasion. He's persistent, though. Or stupid, one. I've got to get some samples from her to test, just to rule out a cause for her mood beyond inexperience. It would be excellent if she'd nest this year, since I'm almost certain to have a seasoned mother to contrast her experience with.

Steffan and Twilip have been courting rather half-heartedly. He's been so intrigued by Raewyn that he hasn't paid his own mate all that much attention considering the season. If he doesn't re-focus, he may miss the opportunity altogether.

Mr. Gabrys' notes are quite voluminous. I've been slogging through as quickly as I can, and there is good information that seems to confirm my ideas about the Opaleyes, but nothing yet that would give me a good plan to go off of to encourage mating. Frustrating.

A girl came to the reserve last week wanting to see dragons. It seemed to be a spur of the moment sort of thing, which is a bit odd, but who am I to judge, eh? Reese Ashley is her name and she remembered me from school. She happened by the day that Caerwyn succeeded in his amorous quest and watched the dragons with me for a bit. She was talking about having sex with dragons, but I discouraged that. Enormous penises aside, fire hurts.

Reese said Joscelin is shiny. I must ask him to touch me and see if I shiver. I don't recall having that reaction before, though. Maybe I'm immune to shininess? It bears investigation.

Finally wrote to Albin Gabrys about the Opaleyes. Hopefully he'll reply quickly. Can't wait to see what his notes look like.

Received a curious invitation for the end of the month. I'm fairly certain I don't know a Gwenog Jones. It does mention that the party is a surprise. I suppose it would be a big surprise indeed for her to find a bunch of guests she doesn't know at her party.

The dragons are starting to show increased interest in courting. No mating yet, as far as I've observed, but the male Greens are becoming much more attentive. The Opaleyes are still indifferent. Really should contact that fellow Joscelin knows.

Speaking of Joscelin, ever since the incident with Raewyn he's been checking on me every few hours. Or sending Charlie. Or leaving one of his dogs with me. The dogs are very sweet, but it's not really necessary. Seems to make him feel better, though, so I suppose I'll let it go.

Never did find out who was in Raewyn's cave.

Have been making copious notes of all the goings on at the Welsh Dragon Reserve. So far, Beynon is the only male actively pursuing a mate (Raewyn), but the weather is still cool and that's to be expected. Beynon has gotten steadily more persistent, though, and I think I'll need to start spending more time watching that pairing rather than alternating daily as I have been. At least until the other males begin their wooing. Might even spend some nights on the reserve.

Most of my time is spent alone, though Charlie stops by to check up on me from time to time. I visit with Mag each morning in the kitchen before I start out, and she loads me down with plenty to eat for the day. Very nice woman. Has probably kept me from starving as I rarely remember to pack anything on my own.

Met another of the dragon handlers the other day. Joscelin Jones. He's the one Charlie'd mentioned on my first day, who has a contact with knowledge of mating Opaleyes. Have made notes, and must make time to review Joscelin's journals and send this other man an inquiry. Joscelin also knows somewhat about Hebridean Blacks! That was a surprise, and very convenient. Have a growing list of questions to ask him as I have time. Must remember that my focus is supposed to be the Greens. Right.
